Muntanya Russa: A roller coaster that lets you scream, glide, repeat

Riding the Muntanya Russa isn’t just about speed, it’s about where you’re speeding. You’re 500 meters above sea level, tearing through real forest, skimming the edge of a mountain, and catching flashes of the Sagrada Família between the trees. One second you’re flying past branches at 80 km/h, the next you’re staring straight down at the Barcelona skyline. It’s the only ride where you might forget to scream because you're too busy sightseeing.

Muntanya Russa Tibidabo lives in Aventures zone, tucked into the forested upper slopes of the park. It’s not near the flashy entrance or the kiddie rides, you’ll need to climb a bit. Look for a massive steel track winding through the trees, right near the edge of the mountain. Yes, it’s the one you can hear before you can see.

Best way to get there? Once you enter, follow the signs for Aventures or ask a staff member where the screams are coming from.

Visitor tips for the Muntanya Russa ride

  • Keep your phone, cap, and loose items in a locker. Anything unsecured will either fly out mid-ride or distract you the whole time.
  • Want the best view of Barcelona? Sit on the left side of the ride. That’s where the skyline really opens up on the turns.
  • Ride earlier in the day to avoid long lines. This is one of Tibidabo’s most popular rides, and it only gets busier after lunch.
  • Don’t ride on a full stomach. Muntaya Russa Tibidabo ride has unexpected dips and curves that hit harder than they look from the ground.
  • Keep your head firmly against the backrest during the turns, as some of them twist faster than you'd expect.
  • If you’re hoping for a ride photo, the camera flashes just after the second major drop. Act natural or go full chaos.
  • Glasses with straps are usually allowed, but double-check with staff before boarding.
  • If you’re traveling with kids just over 120 cm, make sure they’re accompanied by someone over 18 and over 140 cm. Staff are strict on this.

Does Muntanya Russa have big drops or loops?

It doesn’t flip you upside down, but it does have sharp turns, quick dips, and a few drops that hit hard thanks to the mountain terrain. The speed (80 km/h) and cliffside curves are what make it unforgettable.
