Plan your visit to PortAventura World

PortAventura World is one of Europe’s largest theme park resorts, combining three separate parks, major roller coasters, family attractions, live shows, hotels, and resort dining in one destination. It is far bigger than many first-time visitors expect, with long walking distances and queues that can shape the day if you arrive late. Most visits take 1 to 3 days, and the single biggest difference between a rushed day and a great one is choosing the right park plan before you enter. This guide covers everything from transport and timings to ticket choices and what to prioritise once inside.

PortAventura World at a glance

  • Hours: Opening times vary by season, commonly from 10am, with later closing in summer and special event nights.
  • Closed: Some parks operate seasonally, especially Caribe Aquatic Park.
  • Getting in: Standard multi-park entry prices vary by date and number of days. Single-day tickets often start from around €40 to €60+, while multi-day options usually offer better value. Express products cost extra.
  • How long to allow: One full day works for PortAventura Park alone. However, for those short on time, the same-day pass for PortAventura Park and Ferrari Land is ideal. For the complete experience, you should dedicate one day each to all three parks.
  • When to go: Weekday mornings in May, June, September, and early October are noticeably calmer than weekends in July and August, when school holidays create the longest waits.
  • What most people miss: The themed streets and shows in Mediterrània, quieter family rides in Polynesia, and the resort hotel areas that can save time if you stay overnight.
  • Is a guide worth it? Guided visits are less essential here than smart planning. For most visitors, a map and early arrival deliver more value than a formal tour.

Ferrari Land

  • Ferrari Land has a separate entrance positioned adjacent to PortAventura Park's main entrance, providing direct access to this thrill-focused area.

Caribe Aquatic Park

  • You’ll find a dedicated entrance for the water park, typically accessed via internal pathways from the main complex or separately during summer operations.

If Shambhala or Red Force is a priority, do it first. Waiting until midday can cost you over an hour per ride, as the queues can be rather long.

How do you get around PortAventura World?

PortAventura World is divided into three parks, with PortAventura Park itself split into six different themed lands.

Zones inside PortAventura Park:

  • Mediterrània: The entrance land styled as a Mediterranean harbour town, home to restaurants, shops, waterfront views, and the high-speed launch coaster Furius Baco.
  • Polynesia: A lush tropical zone with water rides, shaded walkways, and live entertainment, ideal for cooling off during warmer parts of the day.
  • China: The park’s main thrill area, featuring dramatic theming and two signature coasters, Shambhala and Dragon Khan.
  • México: A visually striking land of temples and plazas, best known for Hurakan Condor and its immersive atmosphere.
  • Far West: A Wild West-themed zone mixing family rides, water attractions, and coasters in one of the park’s most varied areas.
  • SésamoAventura: The most family-friendly section, packed with gentle rides, colourful scenery, and Sesame Street characters for younger children.

Suggested route: Start with China for headline coasters, then move clockwise before crowds spread park-wide.

Maps and navigation tools: Printed maps and the official app are useful for live wait times and show schedules. Signage is good, but the resort is large enough that a map saves backtracking.

Pro tip: Do not zigzag across lands chasing random queues. Pick one direction and keep momentum.

Facilities and accessibility at PortAventura World

  • Wheelchair rentals: The parks offer a service that lets you rent wheelchairs or pushchairs on the day of your visit. The rental for a manual wheelchair is €12, with a €10 refundable deposit. Keep in mind that this provision is subject to availability on the day.
  • Lockers: The park offers small, medium, and large lockers at different rates. You’ll find these in the group lockers area and in the ticket booth areas of Caribe Aquatic Park.
  • Animal daycare: If you can’t leave your pet back home, you can drop them off at the park’s animal daycare, which will cost you €8 per day. Make sure to carry your pet’s health certificate on the day.
  • Pick-up service: If you happen to shop at the park’s many on-site stores, but don’t want to carry heavy bags around, you can even have them dropped off at El Laboratorio - La Casa del Retrat, in the Mediterrània plaza, for free. They’ll be ready for you to pick up when you leave.
  • Parking: PortAventura World offers paid parking for vehicles on site. Parking for a single car will cost you €16, while the cost for a motorcycle is €6.
  • First aid: The parks also have first-aid stations to deal with any medical emergencies or injuries.

Mobility access exists across much of the resort, but gradients, distance, and queue areas can still be tiring. However, accessible restrooms and adapted services are available all across.

If you’re unable to travel to the park without a wheelchair or a pushchair, you can also rent one at the ticket office. You will need to pay a deposit, which will be refunded to you once the wheelchair is returned at the end of your visit.

Note: Your ability to rent a wheelchair will depend entirely on availability on the day.

Tips to make the most of your time at PortAventura World

  • Arrive 30 minutes before opening and use the first 90 minutes for your highest-priority rides. Head straight to Shambhala, Dragon Khan, Red Force, or other headline attractions first, as queue times can rise sharply once the main crowds enter.
  • Do not try to cover all three parks in one day unless you are comfortable rushing. PortAventura World is large, and a better experience usually comes from focusing on PortAventura Park first, then adding Ferrari Land or Caribe Aquatic Park on another day.
  • Use lunch hours strategically. Ride queues often remain high while restaurant lines grow between 1pm and 3pm, so eating slightly earlier around 12pm or later after 3pm can save valuable time.
  • Follow a route through the lands instead of zigzagging across the park. Start with China for the major coasters, then move logically through México, the Far West, and back toward Mediterrània to reduce unnecessary walking.
  • Download the official park app before you arrive. Live wait times, show schedules, and maps are especially useful here because the resort is large enough that poor planning can waste an hour or more.
  • If you are staying nearby, consider returning for evening hours in summer. The atmosphere after sunset, especially around Mediterrània, feels completely different, and many visitors remember the nighttime energy as much as the rides.
  • Pack for a full outdoor day. Sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, and comfortable footwear make a bigger difference here than at indoor or city attractions because of the size of the resort and long walking distances.
  • If Red Force is a priority, go to Ferrari Land early or on a separate half-day plan. Many visitors leave it too late and spend a large part of the afternoon in one queue.
