The mobile app was very useful and informative. The Barcelona hop-on hop-off tour was very sensible, and we couldn't have seen everything in one day on our own. Thanks to this tour, we got a complete tour of Barcelona. We did the full tour and then got off at the stops we liked. You can get off at any stop you want and then get back on the bus. Getting around the city on your own might end up costing you more in tickets, so this tour makes more sense. I'm attaching some photos of the beautiful sights we captured from the bus :)

I tried Barcelona's Hop On – Hop Off service during a weekend visit and, overall, it was an interesting and useful experience, especially for those visiting the city for the first time. You can hop on and off whenever you want, which is really convenient if you want to explore the city at your own pace. We purchased the 48-hour pass so we could cover all the lines. The service covers many of the main attractions such as the Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, and Barceloneta, with panoramic views from the open-top bus. The staff are always polite and helpful—I recommend it.

I really liked the whole park. It's very impressive what Gaudi created there. I particularly liked the Gaudi Museum, the unique architecture and nature and of course the view.

The tickets were delivered quickly and the experience was great. The only difficulty was to download the audioguides through the official Sagrada Familia app, but with the help of the staff we were able to make it.

Nativity facade

This was the only facade that was completed before Gaudí himself. It’s an explosion of life, joy, and intricate detail. You’ll see scenes from Jesus’s birth carved into stone like a living Christmas card, with vines, animals, and angels everywhere you look.

Passion facade

In contrast, the Passion Façade is stark and dramatic, telling the story of Christ’s final days with raw emotion and sharp, angular sculptures. It’s haunting, beautiful, and makes you stop in your tracks.

Glory facade

Still under construction, this will eventually be the grandest of them all — representing the path to God, complete with scenes of death, judgment, and resurrection. Even unfinished, you can feel its ambition.

Towers

The Sagrada Familia Towers are a formidable sight. Of the 18 planned, 9 are complete—4 towers of the Nativity Facade's, 4 towers of the Passion Facade, and the Virgin Mary Tower.

If you opt for tower access, ride the elevator up one of the spires for unbeatable views of Barcelona. You’ll also get a close-up look at Gaudí’s quirky mosaics, twisting shapes, and dizzying heights.

Altar and apse

The altar area, surrounded by columns and bathed in warm light, is quietly majestic. Look up to see a massive canopy-like structure with Jesus suspended from it, framed by golden lighting. Gaudí wanted it to feel celestial and it truly does!

Interiors

Step inside and prepare for your jaw to drop. The basilica's interior, a testament to Gaudí’s genius, marries Gothic naturalism with sacred symbolism and nature's motifs. The Latin cross floor plan, with its five-aisled nave, three-aisled transept, and grand ambulatory, reflects Gaudí’s visionary style. Church columns, like towering tree trunks, rise to a vaulted canopy, evoking a majestic forest, while stained glass windows cast a divine kaleidoscope of light. Here, one truly feels in the presence of the Almighty.

Sagrada Familia museum

The Sagrada Familia Museum, nestled at the foot of the Passion façade, is a subterranean treasure trove. Here lie Gaudi’s architectural models, drawings, and period photographs, painstakingly restored after the devastating fire of 1936. Visitors may delve into Gaudi’s life and genius, beholding the models that reveal the grand scale of his visionary work.

Note: All Sagrada Familia ticket options give you access to the Sagrada Familia Museum.

Crypt

Designed by Antoni Gaudí, the crypt beneath Sagrada Familia is a hidden gem that is often overshadowed by the grandeur of the basilica above. It contains the tomb of Gaudí himself, who was buried there after being struck by a tram in 1926.

Visitor tips

  • Sagrada Familia is one of the most visited landmarks in Spain, and entry slots do sell out, especially for the towers and guided tours. Book your tickets online in advance to lock in your preferred time.
  • The first hour after opening and the last hour before closing are the quietest. Early morning gives you softer light inside, while late afternoon offers a golden-hour glow through the stained glass.
  • Before entering, walk around the entire exterior of the basilica. Each façade is completely different in theme, emotion, and style. It’s like walking through three centuries of storytelling.
  • Grab a physical or digital Sagrada Familia map to plan your route inside and spot things you don’t want to miss.
  • Photos are allowed inside, but please turn off flash and keep your voices low — this is still a place of worship and reflection.
  • It’s a functioning basilica, so avoid wearing sleeveless tops. You don’t need to go full formal, but make sure you cover your shoulders and knees.
  • Don’t skip the small on-site museum. It offers insights into Gaudí’s models, construction plans, and the evolution of the basilica. And yes, the gift shop is great for design lovers.
  • Mass is held in the crypt and occasionally in the main basilica. Entry is free for mass, but seating is limited. It’s a unique chance to see the space in its intended use.
  • Construction is ongoing—it’s part of the charm! Don’t be disappointed if certain areas are closed off. You’re witnessing a living, evolving masterpiece in action.
  • While there is a lift to ascend the towers, you will need to rely on a steep staircase to climb down. For this reason, children below the age of 6 and people with disabilities are discouraged from entering the tower.
  • Plaça de Gaudí and Plaça de la Sagrada Família are peaceful green spots across the street— ideal for relaxing after your visit or getting some stunning reflection shots of the basilica.
