FC Barcelona Museum history
The FC Barcelona Museum first opened its doors in 1984, becoming one of the first sports museums of its kind in Europe. It was the brainchild of then-club president Josep Lluís Núñez, who wanted to create a space that preserved and celebrated the club’s rich legacy.
In its early years, the museum was modest in size but quickly grew in popularity, attracting fans from around the world. As FC Barcelona’s success on the pitch increased, so did the museum’s importance. It was expanded and modernized in 2000, introducing interactive technology and audiovisual exhibits that allowed fans to experience the club’s history in new ways.
In 2010, the museum underwent a major renovation, transforming into a fully immersive and digital experience. The revamped layout featured the Messi Space, an area dedicated entirely to Lionel Messi’s record-breaking achievements, as well as a comprehensive Trophy Gallery, historical archives, and digital walls showing memorable moments from Barça’s journey.
Today, the FC Barcelona Museum is the most visited football museum in the world, welcoming millions of fans each year. As part of the ongoing Espai Barça redevelopment project, the museum will see further enhancements to offer an even more dynamic and engaging visitor experience.
