I really appreciated the kindness of the people who welcome us tourists to these popular spots. Despite my somewhat rudimentary "Spanish," everyone was more than happy to give me information. Accompanied by bright sunshine, I immersed myself in the magic of Gaudí. A delightful detail: in a picturesque corner of Parc Güell, a young musician was playing the guitar and singing. She had a beautiful voice and an original style. It was very relaxing. In conclusion, I hope everyone gets the chance to visit these places. And I recommend that everyone book their admission tickets in advance. They were sold out everywhere. Have a great trip!

Simply absolutely sensational! We were already very impressed by Casa Milà (Casa Pedreira) and its history, which we were able to explore at our own pace thanks to an excellent audio guide. But Casa Battlò took it to the next level. We were simply speechless at the exuberant, fantastic creativity of Antoni Gaudí. The excellent audio guide helped us better understand Gaudí’s intentions and ideas. Taking a break at the small, charming café on the second-floor terrace and visiting the rooftop terrace are also well worth it. Tip: Buy tickets BEFORE you arrive, if possible. And: The earlier in the day you schedule your visit to these two unique buildings, the more space you’ll have, since there aren’t as many tourists yet.

We entered without waiting in line; it's a fascinating piece of work, a must-see. At a time when there was no running water, he built this system at home and designed special ergonomic and aesthetic furniture.

This was our first visit to Casa Batlló, and it was a magical experience—we loved it. The audio guides are fantastic; as we move through the rooms, the audio guide automatically switches to the explanation for the room we’re currently visiting, allowing us to explore on our own. We highly recommend giving it a try.

Someone once told me that even if I never went to Barcelona before, even if I didn't know who Gaudí was, I'd still recognize Casa Battlo as his work. They were absolutely right. The best description for this place is - out of this world. I felt as if I traveled in time, but towards the future. Breathtaking. Casa Amatller was designed by Josep Cadafalch, him I did not know about. After exiting Casa Amatller I made sure to read about him and learn what other places he designed. The house reminded me a little of the castles in my home country, Romania, but sprinkled with a unique touch of Spanish history. I loved it. If you would ask me, don't miss any of them. Visit both, they are amazing, you will not regret it.

Casa Batlló Highlights

Casa Batlló is a treat for the eyes. The colorful facade reminds one of the sea, a rooftop that looks like a dragon, and interiors that evoke the feeling of being one with nature. Read on to find out what's inside Casa Batllo.

The Facade

Made using a combination of decorative glass and bright-colored ceramic, with undulating shapes reminiscent of nature, the facade can be divided into 3 distinct parts. The base features slender stone columns in the shape of bones decorated with floral elements, while the central part evokes the image of the surface of a lake with water lilies. The balcony railings take the shape of masks, which has earned Casa Batlló another nickname, 'House of Yawns'. The crown, which resembles a dragon’s back, along with the four-armed cross (representing the handle of a sword), has led to many interpretations.

Patio De Luces

Created using ceramic tiles in shades of blue, this is one of the most enchanting parts of the Casa Batlló. It distributes air and light that enters the house through the main skylight. Gaudí had the patio extended to ensure that natural light would reach all of the rooms of the house. The effect becomes all the more magical when light filtering from the stained windows glints on the mosaic. Don’t be surprised if you feel like you’re in an underwater cave. Gaudí installed a wooden lift car in the center of the patio of lights, which is still in use.

Noble Hall

Spread over more than 700 sq m, the Noble Hall is located at the heart of the house. Accessible through a private entrance hall, there is a spacious landing on this floor which allows you to enjoy a direct view of the blue tiling on the building well. Here, you will find Batlló's study, a mushroom-shaped fireplace, and a dining room. A large picture window sits at the house’s main living room, which forms a gallery onto Paseo de Gracia. The grandeur of these rooms gives visitors an insight into how the elite of the time lived.

The Terrace

Arguably, the most popular feature of the entire house thanks to its famous dragon back design, you can access the terrace by climbing a flight of steps. Gaudí uses different colored tiles, from orange to blue to green, to depict the scales of a dragon. The roof is decorated with 27 chimneys that have been grouped into four stacks of six. Interestingly, they all resemble mushrooms. Designed to prevent backdraughts, the chimneys decked with mosaics are a great example of beauty, functionality, and modern ideas coming together.
